Outside Writing

I’ve written millions of words for other people.

Most of them are Reddit posts, forum comments, ghostwritten articles, and email newsletters. I don’t have a real portfolio.

Nevertheless, here’s a sample of my work outside the blog:

Social impact

How LEEP is Eliminating Lead Paint, One Country at a Time

Life in a Day: The film that opened my heart to effective altruism

You should write about your giving

Journalism

Making Believe: Stories from Yale’s Religious Converts

Carpe Noctem: Master the Science of Parties

Getting Lucky: The Well-Kept Secrets of Yale Poker

Enter Cupid. Maybe. (I made a dollar a word off this, but they made me cut the R-rated bits.)

I once went to South by Southwest and filed stories for a long-dead magazine. The best parts were interviewing CHVRCHES and watching The Act of Killing.

Gaming

I’ve written some of the most popular strategy articles on the subreddit for competitive Magic: the Gathering. Think of them as recipes, but for playing a game instead of cooking.

People who use my recipes win a lot of games. That doesn’t necessarily make the articles good, but they achieved their purpose.
